Yes! None of Nutty Bruce’s ingredients are of animal origin; it’s just a naturally creamy plant-based milk. However, because Bruce is cautious about allergens, we’ll let you know that the production site does make a few other products that contain milk or soy. Our staff who milk the almonds make sure there’s no cross-contamination by doing a thorough clean and then testing between each batch, but we list those allergens on our labels anyway, just to be on the safe side.
We’re super careful to make sure that all our delicious almonds are genuinely organic. Our Nutty Bruce milks are proudly labelled with the Certified Organic standard. This means that all our products have been placed under rigorous scrutiny and approved by an accredited third party.
In the “perfect world” we would love to be able to source all the organic almonds used in our Nutty Bruce products solely from Australia. Unfortunately, in the “real world” (the one that Bruce, you and I live in) there is a lack of consistent supply of Australian grown organic almonds.
Where possible, Bruce and the team always try to source ingredients locally, and for the moment the location for our current supply is dependent on availability. We have our fingers crossed for an Australian supply in the future, but for the time being, we’re prioritising organic over local. It’s a tough decision to make, but we think you’ll understand.
Nope – we don’t need to. Carrageenan is a food additive extracted from seaweed, used widely in the food industry for its thickening and gelling properties. Some people like to avoid it because some forms of highly-processed carrageenan have been linked to gut health issues. Food-grade carrageenan hasn’t been linked to these studies, but we leave it out anyway. Some almond milk producers use carrageenan or other gums and thickeners to make it seem like they’re using more almonds than they are. We think that’s a bit sneaky, so we just use enough almonds to make our nut milks naturally creamy. In fact, none of our range contains any gums, thickeners, preservatives, colours or oils. Yeah, we’re a little bit smug about it, but you’d be smug too if you made nut milks this good.
Yes, of course you can simmer Nutty Bruce, it quite enjoys being warmed up over the stove or even in the microwave. In the “perfect world” Nutty Bruce would enjoy being boiled, but unfortunately in the “real world” (the world that you, Bruce and I live in) it can get a bit too hot and bothered. Try not to boil your Nutty Bruce – it doesn’t like being overheated and it may split!
If you do accidentally split your Nutty Bruce, it’s still fine to use; just the almonds will separate out into white flecks in the milk, which doesn’t look or feel the nicest to drink. If you’re using it in another recipe (we often use Nutty Bruce in cake mixtures, because the Bruce team loves cake) then it works just fine.
Nutty Bruce is not made of dairy milk. It’s different. And we’re proud of it. You be you, Bruce! Nuts are naturally quite low in calcium, and the amount is so small that it is not worth putting on our packs. We don’t think drinking carton after carton after carton trying to chase your daily calcium intake is such a great idea. There are plenty of other ways to get your calcium in, such as leafy greens like kale, spinach and broccoli. If you are concerned about your calcium intake, please chat to a qualified health professional.
All our Nutty Bruce milks are naturally gluten free, except our new Roasted Almond & Oat Milk, as none of the ingoing ingredients contain gluten. However, if we wanted to put ‘this product is gluten free’ on our packs, Nutty Bruce would have to be poked and prodded and go through lots of unnecessary testing to ensure that every single carton has no gluten in it. We’d be surprised if anyone found any gluten that had decided to gate-crash the party, but we’ve decided not to label it, just in case. Nutty Bruce is cautious when it’s your health at stake!
Nutty Bruce is made the most authentic way.
